MoMA WITH INVISIBLE

The surprise performance of the French artist Fred Forest will take place at MoMA, Friday, September 23 from 4pm (Since the places are limited, to join us please contact: . In the objects used by the artist, some will recognize a sophisticated instrument used with the highest technological precision for geo-localization, and others will see a simple instrument used by tailors to measure the four exact lengths of the squared meter. Either way, this savage performance of Squared Meter is a posthumous homage to the art critic Pierre Restany, who was one of the first to defend Fred Forest’s concept of M2.

Today, M2 is entirely dematerialized and becomes the Invisible M2, as described in the artist’s theoretical essay, “Invisible Work-System,” published by Harmattan. In the performance, Fred Forest uses an sound of 24.000 hertz to perturb the space of the museum and the invisibility of the squared meter to question the opacity of criteria that determine value in contemporary art, the economy of speculation, and the role of institutions in relation to the market.

Following his performance at MoMA, an engaged and theoretical explanation of his action will occur at a presentatino with Fred Forest and Holly Crawford (Artist and Art Historian), moderated by Stéphanie Jeanjean (Art Historian, PhD Candidate, CUNY). Le MoMA est tombé dans le piège que lui tendait l’artiste Fred Forest en interdisant sur place le 23 septembre dernier à 4:45 pm sa performance sur le “ m2 invisible “. Ce dernier avait anticipé sur cette interdiction en prévoyant à cette occasion, en réalité, une performance avec la collaboration des services de sécurité du MoMA. (Photo ci-jointe : Fred Forest en discussion avec le chef de service de sécurité du MoMA et ses deux adjoints), au moment où ce dernier lui signifie l’interdiction de procéder à sa performance annoncée, sous menace de faire intervenir la police immédiatement. En effet, la mise en scène de cette performance surprise, nommée “ La conversation “, prévoyait une “ conversation “ avec le personnel muséal, comme l’avait fait l’artiste Tino Sehgal dans “KISS “, œuvre acquise par le MoMA, faisant également intervenir des gardiens de musée. La seule différence étant que Fred Forest n’embrasse pas le chef de la sécurité au cours de la performance produite...Fred Forest se garde bien de l’accusation de plagiat de Tino Sehgal que lui font déjà certains conservateurs de musées , ayant développé depuis les années 70 ce genre d’Interventions immatérielles...La question lancinante qui se pose maintenant est la suivante comme dilemme : Est-ce que le MoMA va procéder à l’acquisition de cette œuvre dénommée “ La conversation “ ? ou vat-il laisser le champ libre à des musées étrangers déjà sur les rangs ? Ne doutant pas des capacités de Fred Forest, je suis quand même fort surpris de lire que " La Conversation", photo sans aucune originalité et sans but, soit considérée comme oeuvre d'art. On peut se moquer du monde dans l'art contemporain, et les spécialiste ne manquent pas, mais à ce point, c'est un peu révoltant.Autrement dit, quand F.F. dit un mot, il considère que c'est une oeuvre d'art!!Heureusement qu'il se limite à ce seul bruit de sa personne.
